Leonora addio by Paolo Taviani wins the FIPRESCI Prize in Berlin. The jury of the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique for the competition of the 72nd Berlinale, composed of René Marx (France), Anna Maria Pasetti (Italy) and Hsin Wang (Taiwan), awarded the prize to Paolo Taviani with the following motivation. “Guided by the free spirit of Pirandello’s genius, the director mixes poetry, melancholy, but also irony, fantasy and joy to tell us the mysteries of life, death and memory”.
The only Italian title competing at the Berlinale, Leonora addio tells of the daring adventure of Pirandello’s ashes and the eventful journey of the urn from Rome to Agrigento. To close the film, Pirandello’s last story written twenty days before he died: The nail.
Leonora addio, played by Fabrizio Ferracane, Matteo Pittiruti, Dania Marino, Dora Becker, Claudio Bigagli, will be released on February 17th, distributed by 01 Distribution. The film is a Stemal Entertainment production with Rai Cinema – produced by Donatella Palermo – in association with Luce Cinecittà, in association with Cinemaundici made with the support of the Sicilian Region – Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment – Sicilia Film Commission, with the support of the Lazio Region – Regional Fund for Cinema and Audiovisual and with the contribution of MIC – DG Cinema and Audiovisual.
The film was shot in Sicily and in the Cinecittà studios.
